Build instructions
Apart from the workpiece you need nothing else.
Carving and finishing
- Clamp the workpiece flat on the spoilboard or secure it with double-sided tape, and set the origin as shown in the carving assistant.
- Carve the mortises of the side cheeks first, then all outlines.
- Free the parts at the holding tabs with a utility knife or fine saw and sand the tab remains flush.
- Before gluing, dry-fit everything. If a joint is too tight, increase the clearance by 0.05 mm and carve the part again; if it wobbles, reduce it.
Assembly and final touches
- Push the tenons of both braces through the mortises of one side cheek, then fit the second cheek. The ledge points forward, the slope backward.
- If the stand is too loose, put a drop of glue into the mortises. For heavy cookbooks set a deeper ledge.
- Finally oil, wax or varnish; for toys use oils or varnishes that are saliva-resistant according to EN 71-3.
