Build instructions

Materials and accessories

QtyPart
2Deep groove ball bearing (bore × outer diameter × width) 8 × 22 × 7 mm (608)
4Wood screws 4 × 35 mm with wall plugs
1Wood glue (water-resistant D3)

Also: sandpaper (grit 120 and 240), a utility knife or fine saw and, for joints, a rubber mallet.

Carving and finishing

  1. Clamp the workpiece flat on the spoilboard or secure it with double-sided tape, and set the origin as shown in the carving assistant.
  2. First mill a test piece with one bearing seat and press the bearing in: it should go in with your thumb or a clamp and then sit firmly. Too tight: increase the fit by 0.02 mm; too loose: decrease it.
  3. Mill the bearing seat, mortises and slotted holes, then cut out the upright, foot and braces.
  4. Free the parts at the holding tabs with a utility knife or fine saw and sand the tab remains flush.

Assembly and final touches

  1. Plug the upright into the foot and glue it, then glue the braces square against it on both sides.
  2. Press the bearing into the seat until it is flush; the shaft sits in the inner ring. With two blocks, first push the shaft through both bearings, then align the feet and screw them down.
