Build instructions

Materials and accessories

QtyPart
1Wood glue (water-resistant D3)

Also: sandpaper (grit 120 and 240), a utility knife or fine saw and, for joints, a rubber mallet.

Carving and finishing

  1. Clamp the workpiece flat on the spoilboard or secure it with double-sided tape, and set the origin as shown in the carving assistant.
  2. Carve the layers one after another: V-carving first (the end mill clears the flat bottom, the V-bit cuts the flanks), then the labels, finally the outline. Re-zero Z after each tool change.
  3. Free the parts at the holding tabs with a utility knife or fine saw and sand the tab remains flush.
  4. Compare with a magnifier: how sharp do the points get in the three text sizes? At what size do fine serifs disappear?

Assembly and final touches

  1. Inlay: select the star and heart, choose “Create inlay plug …” in the carving area and carve the plug from a dark wood. Glue it upside down into the pocket and sand flat once dry.
