Your first part in 10 minutes

Guided start for newcomers: choose a template, demo machine, material, preview, safety, zero and start, all the way to the finished part.

The quickest way from opening the app for the first time to a finished part: Bit (Lasi when lasering) guides you step by step, with a proven template and the demo machine. You need neither a CNC router nor an account.

How to start

  • On the first start the character introduces itself: Your first part in 10 minutes begins the guide.
  • Any time via Help → Your first part in 10 minutes … or the command search (Strg+K, keyword “first part”).
  • In an empty project via the New here? banner above the start cards.

Router or laser, and which part?

In the first window you choose what you work with. Laser work runs in Laser.myWerkzeug.de, the same app in laser mode; choosing it switches over and the guide continues there. The recommended part is already selected: the name sign for milling, the engraved wood slice for lasering.

PartWhat you makeSpecial feature
Name sign (recommended for milling)a name in script lettering to hang upone bit, no tool change; you type the name yourself
Coasterround with engraved ringstwo bits: you get to know the tool change
Engraved wood slice (laser only, recommended there)a name and a heart on a round wood sliceengraving only, no cutting: works even with low-power diode lasers; you type the name yourself

Prefer something else? Design your own sign opens the sign assistant, Another beginner template opens the templates filtered to “Beginner”. The project you open there becomes your first part.

The steps

A bar above the drawing area shows where you are, with a clock since the start. Below it the character tells you what to do next.

  1. Part: the template opens as a new project.
  2. Machine: Start the demo machine connects the built-in simulation. It behaves like a real machine and runs in time-lapse (ten times as fast) during the guide. Connect your own machine via My own machine … (Connecting).
  3. Material: the template brings the material and matching bits from the bit library (laser profiles on the laser). Check the thickness above all and confirm with Looks right.
  4. Preview: drawing and 3D side by side; Play the simulation cuts the part in advance (Simulation).
  5. Zero, safety, start: now the cutting assistant takes over (clamp the material, homing, bit, zero, then safety and start, see Starting a job), or the laser assistant (safety first, then laser check, position and start, see Starting the laser). The bar follows the assistant.
  6. Done: the bar shows every step with a tick and its name, the card the time and the number of clicks it took. It suggests what comes next: the template's instructions (sanding, oiling, hanging), set up your own machine, learn to draw, more templates.

Laser with the demo machine

Even without a laser of your own, the demo machine takes you all the way to the finished part. The laser assistant helps just like the cutting assistant:

  • Laser check: if the demo reports an alarm, Start homing runs the homing cycle. After that the app knows where the laser head is.
  • Position: the picture shows the material, the paths, the laser head and the work area. Demo: move the laser to X0 Y0 in the picture moves the head to the project zero; tapping the picture moves it anywhere else (corners, edge centres and the centre snap). Then Set X/Y zero here.
  • Trace the frame runs along the outline of the paths with the laser off, and you see the head move in the picture. The button waits until X/Y zero is set and checks beforehand that the frame fits in the work area.

The same applies to your own laser: homing (if it has limit switches), head to the zero, trace the frame, set the focus (Starting the laser).

Pause and continue

The ✕ on the right of the bar hides the guide; your progress stays in this browser, even after reloading. Continue via Help → Continue your first part or the command search. In the guide's window you can also start over.
